The Euro-economies may be experiencing a global meltdown, but one would never see this happening in the magnificent city of Barcelona, Spain! This colorful and cosmopolitan city, located on the Mediterranean coastline, is a must see for those interested in the world of art and architecture! From Piscasso to Gaudi, this is a travel destination not to be missed!
Barcelona is located on the Mediterranean Sea, just below Andorra and the French border. It is the capital of the autonomous Spanish region of Catalunya. With its Catalan traditions and roots, one can enjoy its sea-breezes and continued SUNSHINE. The one thing that you will note is the brilliance of the sunshine, making everything sparkle. Even the air smells fresh and one just feels better after many hours of compacted travel! With the summer months upon us, you truly will begin your nightly toast at 9:00 pm and build upon your friendships till the wee hours of the morning. We all can learn from the value of kindness that this city's inhabitants offer!
Two "must do" destinations:
LA RAMBLA - is the famous boulevard that your friends back home will ask the "did you visit" question ... so it is a must do on your list and suggest you take this in first as you will need all your energy and concentration to navigate yourself through the maize of shopkeepers and entertainers! There will be hundreds of people sharing your adventure, so beware mind your purse and wallet! Flower and fruit stands, walking fruit entertainers, bird and animal stalls, living statues, and a plethora of entertainment! Just be careful with the photo shoot, for many will "charge" you for taking pictures! Beware as you are prepared for this must see adventure!
SAGRADA FAMILIA - this is an unfinished church masterpiece of Art Nouveau architect, Antoni Gaudi. He began his work in 1882 until his death 40 years later. During his lifetime only four of the towers were completed and the additional 14 are ongoing through donations! It is awe-inspiring and to see the magnitude of his vision is beyond description! There is a lift that can take you to the top, wherein you can take in the breathtaking views of the city. Often I wonder what ever happened to the genius of mankind ... for such a visionary has been lost in today's modern world.
Enjoy your visit and most particularly the graciousness of the people!
