Hotel Elysee: I Love New York!

Quick Overview

I do love New York and want to visit every chance I get - there is so much to see and do on every trip. I had the chance to live there for a while, and I have to say, it's definitely easier to visit! Of course, finding the right and best place to stay is always a challenge. I know you have heard that room sizes are usually small and quite expensive and generally, that's true, unless you want to splurge for a junior suite or higher which only adds to the expense. However, I am always on the hunt for the best spaces for Baby Boomers and this time I think I hit the jackpot!

Welcome to the Hotel Elysee (www.elyseehotel.com)  a boutique hotel located on 54th Street between Madison and Park Avenue. Not only is the address swanky, but the rooms are more than adequate in size and there are perks that are very hard to find at other hotels. To begin, I needed a room with 2 beds since I was traveling with a friend. That in itself is hard to find in NY and then you have to pay a lot extra. Our room was massive – 300 square feet, and when you have 2 females with clothes and make-up trying to get ready at the same time, it's a major treat to have so much space. So, we addressed the size issue – check! At check-in you are told about the other amenities that are awaiting you, In the morning, you can go to the Club room for your free continental breakfast served from 7-10:30AM Monday through Friday and until 11:00AM on weekends – that's right complimentary! There are scones, bagels, croissants, etc. An assortment of coffees, teas and juices. You have cereal, oatmeal, fruit, yogurt and hard boiled eggs. It's a real feast and gets you started for the day. When you return to the hotel to catch your breath, you can go back to the Club room for the free wine and hors d'oeuvres from 5:00-8:00PM daily. They serve red wine, white wine and Prosecco along with cheese, crackers, nuts and fruit. Did I mention they have coffee, tea , cookies and fruit there throughout the day? They also have free newspapers located in that room, I mean, I was beside myself!

I'm not even finished – you can stop at the front desk and get free passes to the New York Sports Club. They have free WiFi, complimentary bottles of water and a chocolate bar in your room upon arrival, a free DVD library and you can request diferent amenities at no charge like pillow top mattress covers, memory foam pillows, lighted make-up mirrors – it's a Baby Boomers dream!

This is an iconic hotel – Tennessee Williams lived here and you can ask to stay in the Tennessee Williams suite. The famous Monkey Bar can be entered from the hotel lobby – you will feel like a famous star from the 40's and 50's. Now, I have to say that the décor is not modern, but it is very clean and adds to the charm, and speaking of charming, the hotel staff is the best and are always ready to help with a smile.

The location is truly wonderful – you can walk to St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Plaza, Times Square, Central Park and many other fabulous spots.

Be sure not to miss a late night treat by going to Bemelman's Bar at the Carlyle to hear Chris Gillespie and his Trio www.chrisny.com If you're a fan of jazz, Porter, Gershwin and the like, you will be mesmerized and truly entertained.

So, go ahead and make your reservations, New York never sleeps, but you sure will by staying at the Hotel Elysee where your dreams will transport you back in time.
