Lebanon believes very firmly that there can never be enough bourbon, so before or after the festival, there is plenty to keep you immersed in the bourbon experience.

The town of 5,500 is an Official Trailhead of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, meaning you can turn in your completed Kentucky Bourbon Trail passport at the Lebanon Visitor Center in exchange for the free, coveted souvenir t-shirt. It is worn with pride by all who earn it, attesting to their endurance in touring and tasting their way through all the bourbon distilleries on the trail.

Maker’s Mark is of course on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. During the Handcraft Festival, a favorite for many visitors is touring this National Landmark distillery to learn how Maker’s Mark bourbon is made and then dipping a souvenir bottle into Maker’s signature red wax. The red wax seal is almost as famous as the bourbon – and the bourbon is known (and loved) all over the world.

Lebanon is the only place where you can see both bourbon making and authentic bourbon barrel making. Tours at the Kentucky Cooperage Company demonstrate how the barrel staves are assembled by hand and then fired to that flavor-enhancing charred oak finish. It is also home to the Maker’s Mark Water Tower, beloved among trailblazers as the only selfie stop with the world’s longest bourbon pour as a backdrop.

Make time to stop by Limestone Branch Distillery, on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Craft Tour. It is busy these days distilling the original recipe for Yellowstone Bourbon, which was created originally in 1872. Pop into the Marion County Heritage Center in downtown Lebanon to see the new bourbon exhibit and then grab a meal at the new bourbon-centric County Seat Kitchen & Bar.

Had enough bourbon? Lebanon would say that’s simply not possible.
