Would you like to try a train trip with your best friend? Now is the time to take the plunge because Amtrak and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) have teamed up for the holidays to offer a special deal to pet owners. In celebration of the December 6 release of the blockbuster film, The Secret Life of Pets, a special pets ride free deal is available for trips booked from December 6 through December 11 or while supplies last. The December 9 through March 31, 2017.

In the first year of Amtrak’s pet program, over 15,000 dogs and cats traveled by Amtrak with their human companions on select routes across the country. Information on the Pets Ride Free program can be found  at Amtrak.com/secretlifeofpets and also at select ticket counters and stations, on trains, including AmtrakConnect Wi-Fi portals.

Also a limited number of The Secret Life of Pets prizes will be available to customers at select stations.

The program will be available in 40 Amtrak markets nationwide that include New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Oakland, Dallas, Baltimore, Cleveland, Portland, Seattle, St. Louis, New Orleans, Pittsburgh, Orlando, Miami, Jacksonville, and Charlestown.

The film, The Secret Life of Pets, was released on November 22, 2016 and will be now released for home viewing on multiple formats to include nearly an hour of bonus content. The film will also be available On Demand on December 6.

The film is an animated comedy about the lives that our pets lead when we leave for work or school.

Of course as we mentioned in a previous article on the Boomer Travel Patrol about the pet travel program on Amtrak, certain restrictions apply. Tickets must be purchased at least three days prior to travel and are valid up to March 31, 2017. Only one cat or dog is allowed in an enclosed carrier on trips up to seven hours in length. The total weight of the pet and the carrier must be no more than 20 pounds. Additional details can be found at Amtrak.com/pets
